Why wood is the building material of the future
It is our passion, but above all our responsibility, to offer a wide range of sustainable wood-based materials that support building with wood.
Our production processes already enable us to produce 90% of the thermal energy used from renewable sources in a climate-neutral manner. We continuously recycle wood and other raw materials to optimize our processes so that they are truly sustainable and make an active contribution to reducing CO2 emissions.
The forest – our sustainable supplier of raw materials
The renewable raw material wood is not only a vital raw material for our industry, but also for humankind and nature. We are therefore committed to protecting and caring for the forest as the most sustainable supplier of raw materials on our planet. Without healthy and sustainably managed forests, a sustainable construction industry is not viable. We source our wood primarily from the regional forests at our sites and only process certified wood from FSC or PEFC designated forestry.
Did you know that wood stores CO2, not only as a tree in the forest, but also as a building material? This makes wood as a building material an important factor in achieving climate targets. Chipboard from SWISS KRONO is resource-friendly and CO2-minimizing. In the case of chipboard, the entire tree is processed, so the wood is used optimally and little waste is produced.

Innovations for healthy living The value chain is crucial
Sustainability always extends along the entire value chain. For example, we specifically promote regional sustainability programs and initiatives at our sites, such as the “CH80” initiative at our Swiss site. This ensures that around 80% of the raw materials within the entire value chain originate in Switzerland and that at least 80% of the added value also remains in Switzerland. As part of the initiative, we promote the thinning and rejuvenation of Swiss forests, support local trades and processing companies and avoid unnecessarily long transport routes.
Sustainable innovations
It is not only in production, packaging materials and transport routes that we make a focused commitment. We also see it as our responsibility to develop product innovations based on sustainable principles. With BE.YOND furniture boards, the MAGNUMBOARD® OSB building board system and COREPEL flooring products, we have succeeded in clearly exceeding the standards and setting new sustainability benchmarks.
Responsibility in various areas of sustainability is a top priority for us. Not only for the environment, but also for future generations. Our long-term strategies therefore include targeted investments that promote environmental protection and minimize the consumption of natural resources.
